Verizon's newest rugged smartphone is Kyocera DuraForce Pro 2
« on: November 16, 2018, 01:06:21 AM »

Verizon Wireless just released a brand new rugged smartphone manufactured by Kyocera (a top Japanese electronics maker). Called Kyocera DuraForce Pro 2, the new handset succeeds the DuraForce Pro that Verizon launched back in 2016 and is presented as being ideal for "adventure-seeking consumers" plus "business and enterprise use, especially construction, public safety and transportation."

Running Android 8 Oreo, the Kyocera DuraForce Pro 2 sports a 5-inch, 1920 x 1080 pixels Sapphire Shield Display that's "virtually scratch proof." The phone is dust- and water-resistant (IP68-certified), thus capable of surviving submersion up to 6.5 feet (2 meters) deep for 30 minutes, while also being protected against drops from up to 5 feet (1.5 meters). Furthermore, the device features Military Standard 810G protection against shock, vibration, high altitude, or humidity, and can properly function at extreme temperatures: from -4 F to 140 F (-20 C to 60 C).

The Kyocera DuraForce Pro 2 can be bought online here. Priced at $444 outright, or $18.50 a month for 24 months on Verizon Device Payment, the new smartphone comes with mid-range internals like an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of expandable storage space. Other features include a PTT (push-to-talk) button for quick calls, loud dual font-speakers, four microphones with echo and noise cancellation, a fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button, USB Type-C, and a 3240 mAh battery with wireless charging. On the camera front, the DuraForce Pro 2 offers a dual 13 MP rear shooter with wide-angle 4K video recording, and a 5 MP front-facing selfie snapper.

Due to its ruggedness, the Kyocera DuraForce Pro 2 is considerably thicker and heavier than your regular smartphone, measuring 150.2 x 73.4 x 13.5 mm (5.91 x 2.89 x 0.53 inches) and weighing 243 grams (8.5 oz). For your peace of mind, this bulky phone comes with 2-year manufacturer's warranty - that's a rarity in the US, where most handsets are sold with 1-year standard warranty.
